The data was created by the Earth Remote Sensing Team Scientific and Technical Branch (STB) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agricultural Products of Canada (AAFC). The work has been carried out since 2009 within the framework of the operational system for mapping types of crops. Source data: optical data (Landsat-5/7/8/9, Sentinel‑2, AWiFS, DMC, SPOT, Gaofen‑1) and radar data (RADARSAT‑2, from 2021 – RADARSAT Constellation Mission), training and validation is carried out on data from provincial insurance companies (the most accurate source), field observations collected AAFC employees, regional partners and contractors (tens of thousands of locations annually), as well as reference layers of land cover for non-agricultural classes. The classification is carried out by the Decision Trees algorithm with an accuracy of more than 85%. The data is updated annually and is divided by province.
