The map was created by the Global Land Analysis&Discovery (GLAD) laboratory under the leadership of the University of Maryland (USA) based on satellite images Sentinel‑2 (10 m) and PlanetScope (3 m), as well as field data from 450 verification pixels and 18 thousand observation points.
Description
The map was created by the Global Land Analysis&Discovery (GLAD) laboratory under the leadership of the University of Maryland (USA) based on satellite images Sentinel‑2 (10 m) and PlanetScope (3 m), as well as field data from 450 verification pixels and 18 thousand observation points. The algorithm includes training two Random Forest models, block mapping, and calibration of probability thresholds so that the areas on the map matched the unbiased estimates on the sample. The result is the first open 10—meter map of China for corn and soybeans with an overall accuracy of 91.8%; area estimates are consistent with official statistics at the provincial level. The map is available in Google Earth Engine.
